I’ve decided I’m going to start a new monthly series called My Favorite Restaurant this Month. Pretty self-explanatory, huh?
It’s no secret that my family and I love to eat in and around Destin. I already share lots of our local meals on my Instagram feed, but I’ll feature my absolute favorites each month here with a special post.
First up: Mimmo’s Ristorante Italiano
Jason and I have been on a major Mimmo’s kick the past few months. It opened in the heart of Destin a few years ago, but for some reason, we’ve really been turned onto this Sicilian-style restaurant lately. We’ve been for nearly every date night that I can recall in the last couple months!
Mimmo’s is very popular on Friday and Saturday nights so I’d suggest making a reservation. We prefer to sit at the bar and almost always have luck snagging a couple seats. We enjoy striking up conversations with the bar tenders and other patrons.
Jason’s favorite appetizer is the Italian sausage and meatballs. It’s nothing fancy, but tastes like Italian food should. The marinara is salty, acidic, and perfectly garlicky.
Be sure to save some fresh bread for dipping!
We’ve ordered many of the menu offerings. The Focaccia del Sud is spectacular (fresh focaccia dough topped with caramelized onions and Gorgonzola cheese then baked- glory!) and the smoked salmon chopped salad is a favorite of mine if I’m keeping it on the lighter side. The creamy basil dressing is heaven-sent.
One of my favorite appetizers for sharing is the Piatto All’Italiana, which is basically Italian charcuterie. The fresh mozzarella with basil and tomato is the best.
You’ve got to try a pizza at Mimmo’s. There is a huge brick pizza oven in the back of the restaurant and they crank out some killer pies. Their dough is unlike any I’ve had. Perfectly chewy, soft, and baked in a super hot oven in no time flat. Sometimes we’ll even pick it up to go.
Our favorite is the prosciutto and arugula pizza.
Isn’t it beautiful?!
The Pizza Rustica is a close second with grilled chicken, roasted red peppers, and caramelized onions. SO many good choices!
And while we’re on the topic of pizza- get a load of the Nutella Pizza!
Our kids thought they’d died and gone to heaven when we brought these leftovers home. It’s the same delicious pizza dough topped with tons of Nutella, white chocolate chips, and powdered sugar. It’s a must try for sure!
Other than pizza, Jason’s very favorite dish is the Pappardelle Corleone. It’s fresh made pappardelle with sausage, mushrooms, and tomatoes in a creamy sauce. So rich. So good.
You seriously cannot go wrong with anything you order! And if you’re in the mood for an adult beverage, the Apperol Spritz is fresh, fruity, and delightful with Italian food.
We’ve been to Mimmo’s a dozen times and I can’t wait until our next visit. It’s great for date night, but definitely kid-friendly, as well. I hope you enjoy!
