Now that I’ve shared Julia’s fancy flamingo room, I’m excited to share Mac’s swashbuckling pirate bedroom!
My sweet teddy bear of a boy has been into pirates for quite a while now. I attribute it to our Disney season passes and limitless rides on Pirates of the Caribbean.
I found this bedroom on Pinterest and used it as my inspiration:
Like Julia, I wanted Mac’s room to have one focal wall of a fun wallpaper. Of course I turned to my friends at Spoonflower and browsed their massive collection of designs. At first I thought it would be cool for the wall to be a giant map, but there are so many great choices, I couldn’t settle on just one.
What I found was even better!
This design immediately caught my eye. I love how whimsical and “little boy-ish” it is (that’s totally a term, right?). It almost looks like the pages of a pirate coloring book coming to life.
The designer, Jill Byers, said this pattern was actually inspired by sailor tattoos. 😉 So maybe not so little boy-ish, haha. But I still love it!
Though the design is a bit busy, I don’t find it overpowering. Paired with three basic white walls, the navy nautical design provides the perfect pop of character.
As for bedding, we’re sticking with Mac’s classic madras quilt and sham for now.
I love how the reds and tans pair with the navy. We’ll likely upgrade him to a bigger bed once Miles moves out of a crib, but I’ll stick with the same color scheme. Madras never goes out of style!
The throw pillow is from Spoonflower’s sister company, Roostery. I feel like it perfectly ties in the navy from the wall paper and red from the bedding. Plus, the design is just too cool for my young captain.
I think the boys are quite pleased with their pirate hang out.
Another cool thing about Spoonflower’s wallpaper is that it can be used for a variety of crafts. I have every intention of framing a sheet of this Old World map design and hanging it in Mac’s room, but it just hasn’t happened yet.
Moving at the start of summer break has left me with limited time for extra projects. I promise it will get done once the kids go back to school!
And shout out to my girl Mallory from MalWow Productions for these fun photos of my boys.
