My Beach Bag Faves from Whole Foods {giveaway!}

June 26, 2017 By Molly Leave a Comment

It has been quite the rainy June for us at the beach. We’ve had four weeks of rain that ended with a tropical storm. Now that summer has officially begun, it seems, as if on cue, that the rain has moved past and the sun has arrived. Hallelujah!

My kids are ready to soak up some sunshine, and my friends at Whole Foods in Destin stocked me up with some awesome goodies that will be perfect for the beach, pool, or a summer picnic.

So first up is sunscreen. I am a freak about sunscreen on my kids and often reapply it two or three times while we are out.

This Goddess Garden sunscreen is great for spraying all over the body and I use the Kiss my Face on their cute little faces. Julia is very fair-skinned so I’m extra careful with her. The stick is a great option for faces and babies (I keep it in my diaper bag).

I have become a huge fan of coconut water! I keep it in the fridge at all times for smoothies. It’s slightly sweet and full of electrolytes, so it’s a great way to stay hydrated on a hot summer day. The 365 Everyday Value brand now comes in organic!

Be careful with these BBQ Black Bean Bearitos, friends. They taste a lot like chili cheese Fritos, but with quality ingredients. So darn good.

I don’t usually keep juice in the house, but I stumbled upon these Oh-So Organic pouches at Whole Foods and was pleased to see that they are very low in sugar (only 8g!). I picked up a pack as a fun treat for the kiddos at the beach.

Essentia water is pretty much the bomb. It’s supercharged ionized alkaline water that apparently rehydrates better than normal water. All the celebs drink it! And I’ve heard it’s great after a few too many adult beverages, but I cannot speak to the accuracy of that claim. 😉

These Unreal crispy dark chocolate peanut butter cups are one last fun treat for your beach bag. Oh my goodness. It’s like a Reese’s cup made with organic, vegan, non-GMO, gluten-free ingredients. My kids go wild for them!

Don’t forget your Cotton Candy grapes! They are currently available at Whole Foods are juicy, sweet, and delicious. We love ours frozen.

Whole Foods Destin wants to help stock your beach bag this summer, also! One lucky winner will receive a $50 gift card that you can use at your local Whole Foods. Follow the Raffelcopter prompts below to enter. Contest ends 12:00 AM cst on 7/1/17.

Dewey Destin’s Snowballs

June 14, 2017 By Molly Leave a Comment

Dewey Destin’s Seafood Restaurant is a beloved little seafood shack on the Choctawhatchee Bay in Destin, overlooking Crab Island. And right next to the seafood shack is Dewey’s snowball trailer!

The location is awesome! There’s a big sandy area for the kids to play while watching all of the boats at Crab Island. There’s a bustling boat launch right next to Dewey’s, so plenty of entertainment. 😉

dewey flavors

All the syrups are made by hand using pure Louisiana can syrup. You can choose from all the classic flavors such as banana, chocolate, watermelon and Tiger Blood and a few signature flavors like the Scarlett O’Hara, which is red velvet and cake batter flavors stuffed with cheesecake and topped with sweetened condensed milk. Yowza!

snowballs

Julia and Mac both chose cake batter. Julia got hers stuffed with ice cream. So good! Very sweet, but a tasty, cold treat for a hot afternoon.

Believe it or not, this was our first time trying Dewey’s snowballs, but we’ll definitely be back. Now that I think of it, we haven’t eaten at Dewey’s in ages so we’ll make a day out of it soon.

June Book Picks

June 2, 2017 By Molly Leave a Comment

I have not been reading as much in 2017 as I’d like. I swear it took me 5 months to finish one book- not because it was bad- just because life gets in the way! I usually only have time to read once the kids are in bed and I often turn into a pumpkin myself by that point. Can anyone relate?

My goal is to read THREE whole books this month. I’m sure some of you could read that many in a weekend, but, again, that’s a tall order for me. I’m excited about my selections, though!

Driftwood Summer by Patti Callahan Henry

driftwood summer

My granny flies through paper backs and passes them onto me. This book takes place in a small resort town in coastal Georgia and follows three sisters who have drifted apart thanks to childhood crushes, family secrets, and more. I’m about 60 pages in and it’s great so far! A perfect beach read.

The Sun Is Also a Star (Yoon, Nicola)

the sun is also a star

I’ve seen this one all over my book club circles and social media so I decided to go for it. According to the book jacket, the book is about a boy, a girl, and the universe. Yoon calls herself a hopeless romantic who believes you can fall in love in an instant and that it can last forever. Sign. Me. Up!

This Is How It Always Is: A Novel by Laurie Frankel

this is how it always is

Another book that’s all over social media. It’s about a family with a transgender child and all of the revelations and transformations that arise along their journey. It was named an Amazon Best Book of January 2017. I have a feeling it will give my book club ladies lots to discuss.

These are some titles I always recommend when people ask for suggestions:

The Nightingale and Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah (The Nightingale is the BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ)
Saving CeeCee Honeycutt by Beth Hoffman
The Island, The Castaways, A Summer Affair (or really any book) by Elin Hilderbrand
Double Whammy and Skinny Dip (or any book) by Carl Hiassen

What are you reading this summer? I’m hoping to get through these three in June and bring you some new (to me) titles in July!

FYI- I’ve included affiliate links in this post. :)
