Life has been nothing but busy since Kindergarten started in August. The five of us are always on the run from elementary school to preschool to soccer practice and cheerleading. Julia and I had a much-needed girls only afternoon last weekend and headed to Uncle Buck’s Fishbowl for bowling and lunch.
Uncle Buck’s is part of the Bass Pro Shops Restaurant Family and opened in the Destin Commons expansion during 2014. What a place! Upon entering you truly feel like you are inside a fish bowl.
There are fish of every variety hanging from the ceiling. Everywhere you turn are barnacles, mermaids, coral, and any marine animal you could imagine. There is even a replica of a 1200 pound Bluefin Tuna in the bar area.
Julia was hooked from the second we walked in and couldn’t stop looking up. Even the 16 bowling lanes are part of the underwater theme. The ball returns resemble alligator and shark heads. Julia really got a kick out of the alligator spitting our balls back to us.
Since it was just the two of us, our games went pretty fast. The restaurant provided bumpers for Julia (though I could have really used them, too!) and a ramp to roll her ball down.
Uncle Buck’s definitely caters to the entire family. All the essentials are provided for kids up to the most avid bowler. Julia couldn’t stop smiling and twirling between her turns. She even got a few spares!
We worked up quite the appetite bowling and ordered a few shareables from the menu.
Julia wanted cheesy pizza and I was craving nachos, so why not order both?! The manager also sent our their specialties; beer-battered fish and fried alligator bites.
I’m not sure there was enough food for the two of us. 😉
The pizza was one of the best I’ve had! The crust was thin and crispy and super garlicky. I loved it. Julia really enjoyed the fish, but was nervous to try the alligator. The cream cheese and pepper jelly dipping sauce was outstanding.
The two of us had such a great time away from our boys. Uncle Buck’s would be an awesome place for a birthday party or the perfect way to escape the rain or cold. It would also be a fun spot to catch a sports game, as I noticed the Sunday NFL games were broadcast on the big screens. Julia and I can’t wait to come back and we might even invite her brothers and Daddy next time!
