Tucked in a little corner next to our all-time favorite Mexican restaurant in Destin (another post for another day) is The Local Market.
Mac and I stopped by a few weeks ago to check it out.
The Local Market is located on Gulf Shore Drive in Destin, which is home to many condos, vacation rentals, and beach houses. The restaurant/market offers many snacks and necessities that visitors to this area can quickly grab and take back to the condo.
You can find everything from chips to cookies to wine and beer. But the real stars of The Local Market are the fresh, local, and scratch-made sandwiches, pizzas, smoothies, and juices.
The Local Market is owned by a local family who has been in the restaurant business for years in Northwest Florida (think Harbor Docks, Camille’s, LaPaz, etc.). They do a wonderful job of sourcing local products and ingredients when they can.
Mac and I started with a fresh-made Green Goddess juice. I couldn’t believe how much he loved it! He sucked it right down.
He opted for the (giant) kids’ grilled cheese and I got the veggie pizza.
I was so impressed by the pizza! I asked if it would take a long time to bake (with Mac we can’t ever wait long for food!) and they said no. They were right! The thin and crispy crust cooked up in no time flat and it was topped with spinach, bell peppers, mushrooms, and banana peppers (my favorite). The portion was big enough that I was able to have it for lunch the next day.
The Local Market is a great quick stop for anyone staying on Holiday Isle, and is definitely worth a quick trip from anywhere in Destin. I hear their donuts are wonderful at breakfast time but I haven’t experienced them myself.
There is plenty of seating inside and outside or you can take your order to go. Mac and I really enjoyed our lunch and can’t wait to go back soon. Perhaps today is that day.
