This weekend my mom and I took the kids to Rosemary Beach for the Flutterby Festival. We couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful day!
Rosemary Beach is one of my very favorite beach towns along 30A. Flutterby is an arts and entertainment festival and is put on by the Cultural Arts Alliance and the Merchants of Rosemary Beach. It’s appropriate for kids of all ages and is held on the East Long Green.
I’d heard great things about Flutterby and I’m so happy I finally took the kids.
One of the most popular features at the festival is the decorate-your-own butterfly wings!
Julia is my arts and crafts junkie and I knew she’d love decoding her wings. The wings are $7 per pair, but they are made out of very sturdy cardboard with elastic straps so the kids can wear them. Once you pay for your wings, you take them to a tent full of art supplies. Stickers, markers, glitter, and paint, oh my!
Entry into the festival is free, but you can buy tickets ($1 each), as certain activities call for a ticket or two.
Mac was in heaven in the bounce house, as usual.
As a mom, I appreciated the fact that there was one bounce house for the little kids and one for the big kids. Of course my kids wanted to go on the big kid bounce house, but they settled for the little kid option.
Julia really enjoyed all of the crafts available. Mac couldn’t have cared less about crafts, but he had a blast doing the games.
In addition to the games and crafts, there was a ton of entertainment throughout the day. Local dance troupes performed, there was a dramatic reading of a butterfly story, and Julia’s favorite of all, a magic show!
She was called on stage to assist and you would have thought she’d won the lottery! Girlfriend was in heaven.
Mac and Honey enjoyed the show.
Lovey the Magician was so kind to Julia and really let her help a lot. Julia is still talking about what a great time she had. Maybe we have a future magician on our hands.
I can’t say enough about what a great time we had! I rarely take the kids out to 30A. It just seems so far away, but it’s always worth it (Rosemary is a good 45 minutes from our house, but it’s also the very last beach town before you get to Panama City Beach).
Flutterby Festival was just perfect for my kids. There were enough activities to keep them interested and occupied without being overwhelming. There were a few food vendors on site (hotdogs and chips for the littles, a peanut butter crepe for me). My only complaint is that the only bathrooms were quite a trek away, especially if you have one kid happily involved in an activity and the other kid is on the verge of having an accident.
I would highly recommend Flutterby Festival and we will definitely be back next year!
